First official trailer for ‘Wild Card’ now online

Written by O’Boyd

Jason Statham doesn’t seem to take a day off.

His next movie, “Wild Card,” dropped its first official trailer on Friday. In it, he plays a character we’ve seen him play many times. But that’s not necessarily a bad thing.

Statham is Nick Wild, a Las Vegas bodyguard with a the normal set of professional skills, both with a gun and fighting, that we’ve come to expect with Statham movies. In “Wild Card,” he helps a friend who is beaten by a thug, only to find out the thug is the son of a powerful mob boss.

The film is written by William Goldman, who has two Oscars to his credit. One is for Best Original Screenplay for “Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid” in 1969 and another was for Best Adapted Screenplay for “All the President’s Men” in 1976.

Impressive.

The film also stars Sofia Vergara, Stanley Tucci and Anne Heche. It’s scheduled to hit theaters on Jan. 30.

Moviefone.com posted the above photo on its Facebook page to remind me how hilarious the FunnyOrDie.com video was between Brad Pitt and Zach Galifianakis was. It was done as a prelude to Pitt’s film “Fury,” which is apparently the most downloaded bit torrent movie out there after the recent Sony hack.

• Though “The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies” doesn’t come out for another two weeks, the focus has suddenly shifted from all the buzz about “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” to this movie. Ian McKellen – who has played Gandalf in all three “Hobbit” films and all three “Lord of the Rings” films – doesn’t believe “Five Armies” is the end of the journey.

Variety and The Hollywood Reporter had big coverage of the London premiere of “Five Armies.” IMDB.com also has a bunch of photos.

Written by O’Boyd

A new international trailer for the Jason Statham film “Wild Card” has been released.

Wild Card is a new version of the 1986 film “Heat” which starred Burt Reynolds. Statham plays Nick Wild, a Las Vegas bodyguard with gambling problems and a lethal set of combat skills (tell me if you’ve seen that before).

The film also stars Sofia Vergara, Stanley Tucci, Milo Ventimiglia and Jason Alexander. It’s set for a Jan. 30, 2015 release.
