Another ‘Force Awkens’ character has apparently been named

Gwendoline Christie

Gwendoline Christie from “Game of Thrones”

Written by O’Boyd

Last week, Entertainment Weekly came out with trading cards – a brilliant idea that was put together with the help of Disney and J.J. Abrams – for the new characters in “The Force Awakens.”

The latest character potentially named didn’t get such a royal treatment.

The Internet went crazy as Stitch Kingdom reported a character name was supposedly registered by LucasFilm and Disney. That character: Captain Phasma.

Rumors are going around that the character would be played by Gwendoline Christie from “Game of Thrones.”

MovieWeb.com gave its thoughts on the new character:

“There is no prior documentation for this character or the name outside of an extensive fan-fiction titled Tarkin’s Fist. There are also a number of random usernames using this moniker floating around the Internet. Is it possible that J.J. Abrams and his team are paying homage and honoring some of their favorite fan fiction by stealing a name from this vast online universe? That’s kind of cool, yet kind of lame depending on how you want to look at it.

“It is speculated that Captain Phasma is the character being played by Gwendoline Christie, rumored to be an Imperial Officer with ties to the force who is pursuing John Boyega’s Finn, an AWOL stormtrooper, across the universe.”

JJ Abrams putting together another secret sci-fi film project

Yep, he’s at it again.

Remember “Cloverfield,” the 2008 monster movie that was shrouded in secrecy when everyone wanted to see the monster? Do you realize how little information has been leaked for “The Force Awakens”? Yes, JJ Abrams runs a tight ship when it comes to keeping movie secrets.

His next project is no different.

Deadline.com reports Sony Pictures is putting the final touches on a deal for “an untitled top secret project” that Abrams will produce through his Bad Robot banner. It will be directed by Chris Alender, who did the short “Eye of the Storm,” which you can watch below. It will be Alender’s first full-length movie that he’ll direct.

Deadline reports that Lionsgate and STX were also working hard to get the rights to Abrams’ film. Sony has been busy acquiring the rights to films since the recent hacks. Three days ago, it got the rights to another sci-fi, “Passengers,” and also nabbed the NYPD corruption documentary “The Seven Five.”

The trailer for “The Force Awakens” was viewed more than 72 million times in one week. But one person hasn’t seen it … the actual creator of Star Wars.

In an article by PageSix.com, the social site for the New York Post, George Lucas said he hasn’t seen the trailer because it hasn’t played in a movie theater yet.

“I don’t know anything about it. I haven’t seen it yet,” Lucas told the newspaper.

When the newspaper asked Lucas why he hasn’t seen the clip, he explained, “Because it’s not in the movie theater. I like going to the movies and watching the whole thing there. I plan to see it when it’s released.”

‘Saturday Night Live’ spoofs ‘The Force Awakens’ in an awesome way

Written by O’Boyd

I used to watch NBC’s “Saturday Night Live” all the time. These days, it’s easier to wade through the rough skits by seeing what social media deems funny.

This is funny. SNL’s take on “The Force Awakens” trailer is pretty amazing. It starts out a little slow but picks up steam in a hurry, especially after old Han Solo orders from the Early Bird Special menu.

Just check it out and decide for yourself.
