A group that included Rupert Wyatt, Morten Tyldum, Daniel Espinosa and Justin Lin was reported to be the short list of choices by Paramount Pictures, J.J. Abrams and Skydance Productions. Jones (“Moon” and “Source Code”) is in post-production for the video-game adaptation of “Warcraft.” He’s also believed to be involved in “Mute,” a graphic novel about a bartender who can’t speak that decides to enter the world of crime to track down his kidnapped female friend.

Cinema Blend reports Wyatt (“The Rise of the Planet of the Apes”) is the clubhouse leader to be chosen as the next director for the third “Star Trek.”

Deadline is reporting Rupert Wyatt (“Rise of the Planet of the Apes”) heads a list that includes Morten Tyldum (“The Imitation Game”), Daniel Espinosa (“Safe House”), Justin Lin (“Fast & Furious”) and Duncan Jones (“Source Code”).

One of the five will take over for Roberto Orci, who was originally slated to direct the film but has seen bowed out. Edgar Wright was once believed to be of interest, but his name appears to have faded from the picture.

There is no timetable for when the new director will be chosen.
